After talking on the phone with Gary the other day, I decided I should probably write an update on things.
I am now into my 3rd week of working in Spokane. For the last two weeks, I have been putting together a database and programming it to the likes of those in charge and have also been helping with the organization of the collection. I no longer live in Moscow or work in Pullman. I am currently living in Hayden and driving to Spokane everyday.
For the last two weeks, I have been spending my free time during the week planning our upcoming Europe trip. Things are coming together pretty nice. The itinerary looks something like this:
Fly to Seattle from Spokane and Boise
Fly to Copenhagen
Fly to Paris
Ride a Train to Liege, Belgium
Wander the Ougree and Seraing areas of Liege (family history related)
Ride a train to Cologne, Germany
Fly to Venice, Italy
Wander Venice. Take a boat through the grand canal and ride a gondola.
Ride a train to Zurich, Switzerland
Wander the Fallenden and Maur areas of Zurich (Family history related)
Ride a train to Bern and Geneva, Switzerland
Wander Geneva
Fly to Barcelona, Spain
Wander Barcelona. We want to see the Sagrada Familia and a few other things here.
Fly to the Mystery City
Wander the mystery City
Fly to Paris
Spend the last three days of the trip wandering Paris. We are staying at a bed and breakfast right next to the Eiffle Tower and will also go and see the louvre and the Notre Dame Cathedral as well as whatever else we decide.
Fly to Copenhagen
Fly to Seattle
Fly to Spokane and Boise
I think it will be a good time. We are going to see a lot. I wish I could reveal the mystery city, but...well...it is a mystery. There will be a lot of neat things to see there as well.
Caren continues with her clinicals in Moscow and is starting to look for work elsewhere for when she is finished. We spend the weekends together and just celebrated 2 years of dating a week before last and then of course Valentine's day. Although, we didn't do much on Valentines. Friends of mine, Seth and his wife Julie and their kids, were up visiting her parents, so we went to lunch with them.
Not much else happening.
Oh, almost forgot. In light of the recent news from my two younger siblings, I would just like to announce that Caren and I are not getting married in the near future and don't have any plans to do so on the horizon either. Sorry...I just couldn't resist.

How long will the trip be? It sounds like an exciting one. You know, of course, that I will require lots of pictures and a few small souviners upon your return.
When are Ben and Sara getting married? Does anybody know?
Mom... 2.5 weeks. It will be another whirlwind trip like the last one, but my hope is to have it hammered out in detail before we ever leave and I'm not driving this time, so hopefully it will be relaxing for all once we are there. In the mean time, I am at high stress level trying to get it all worked out. I'm having good luck though. My strategy is probably not the best for lowering stress, but it works well for lowering price. I tend to use brute force research on every aspect until I know the high and low ends of cost and then book. Total cost of travel for all three of us including roundtrip to Paris, 4 train rides over there, and 4 airplance rides over there will ring in at about $3,900. Divided by three, that isn't bad. I've also reserved all but one of our places to stay, Geneva, and that will ring in at about $2000 for the three of us. Total cost except food will be about $2,000 each. Not too terrible considering last year's trip and we are doing a bit more on this trip. Also not too bad considering I spent that plus $500 on roundtrip airfare alone to visit Kerry at Christmas. Anyway, my point is, have mercy. I'm already going to the poor house over this. ;-)
Hmm and here I was thinking a triple wedding would be interesting. Joe you disappoint me. ;)
lol...sorry Laurie. No can do. We are doing our best to be non-conformists. The last of the Mohicans if you will.
You will be taking pictures anyway and if you just can't afford a CD to burn them to, I will give you one. ;)
I think you have planned well and have kept the cost down. Do you have the address of the family home that my parents and the Loves visited in Liege? I don't believe their cousin is alive now but she did have a son that may live there now. Also, be sure to visit St. Mark's cathedral and the square when you are in Venice. It's wonderful and they give tours in English. Be sure to find a glass blowing shop where they make inlaid gold in glassware, it's beautiful. I don't know if they still make Venetian lace but it's worth picking up a tablecloth at the local shops. Only suggestion about he Louvre is to not see it on the weekend. That is the time for the locals and it is busy. I am jealous that you are all going!
