Thanks/Airlines

It was good to see everyone at Sara's reception over the weekend. We made it back alive after a very long drive. We delivered the puppy to Caren's brother and his family in Ammon and had lunch with them before heading the rest of the way. We hit nasty rain storms from deer lodge to missoula, but other than that it was mostly just light rain the whole way. We had a good time and enjoyed seeing all of you. Congratulations to Sara and Rob.

Just as an fyi, I've been researching airplane tickets for Kelly and Gary to fly up here and visit. I used to just skip over Delta because they were always so bloody expensive. However, anymore they are are as cheap or cheaper than Alaska or Southwest. Only $150 to fly from SLC to GEG roundtrip right now. I haven't really checked other flights, but that is a very decent price on that flight. I paid $100 more than that when I flew down for Natalie's baptism flying a combination of Southwest and Alaska. Granted, I waited until the last minute to get the tickets, but usually they average at least $200 and can run up in the neighborhood of $400. The 1.5 hour flight is very enticing compared to the 11 hour drive that would be. Anyway, don't know that anyone cares, but if you are flying in the near future, don't overlook Delta. Delta is a pretty good airline too. There are only two airlines I will never recommend to people thus far. In fact, not only will I not reccomend them, but I would go so far as to encourge people to avoid them at all costs. One of them, United Airlines, flies here in the states. The other, Ryanair, is a low cost airline over in Europe. Just want to take the opportunity to again say, they are terrible airlines. They are not worth one cent of your money. Enough of my soap box though.

What's your beef with United?

We flew United to Europe last year. They were rude, inconsiderate, very minimal, incapable of providing any of the help I asked for, and overall just a terrible experience. On top of that, every single flight was at least two hours late. The airplane itself was cramped and uncomfortable. They also serve only the busiest airports as transfer points. If they have the cheapest ticket and you are only flying an hour or two, then I say do it. Otherwise, don't waste your money. Quantas is the way to go to Australia and as far as I'm concerned, SAS is the way to get to Europe. I haven't flown Delta on a major flight though, but from what I understand they aren't bad either. I've only flown them to Alabama and they were pretty decent then. Maybe it was a fluke, but we had a terrible time with them. I had to beg for a wheelchair and even then they told me to wait when we were going to miss our flight home because they were several hours late. I finally gave up, grabbed the first wheelchair I saw and just went. I also realize that this is not entirely their fault. So, my other piece of advice is absolutely do not fly through Chicago. That airport is worse than Heathrow. I've never seen a larger conglomeration of jerks in my life. The staff there are unbelievably incapable of providing any sort of help. I understand it is a busy airport and they have a lot going on, but so does Heathrow and so does Charles De Gaulle and half the other airports I've flown in or out of which isn't exactly a small number. I've never been treated that crappy in my entire life and I'm not a demanding person. All I ask for are the simple things.

Don't get me started on Ryanair.

I guess I'm not quite done yet. Atlanta was easier than Chicago and Atlanta had about 20 million more passengers than Chicago that year. It's like going to Jack in the Box in Moscow, Idaho. You are better off having a bum off the street kick you 30 times and then eating whatever he/she barfs up. There is only so much of that crap a man can take. I feel it my right as a human being to be treated like one. I feel it my right to be provided with the basic necessities (nothing over the top) while flying on an airplane that I spent two weeks worth of pay to be on. United could not do that. The best thing United did on that trip was to contract out the flight from Heathrow to Edinburgh to a company with the ability to do so. They people in Edinburgh were some of the best on the entire trip. United failed miserably. It is no surprise to me at all that they get consistently bad reviews and were voted at the bottom of the list of airlines in the United States. I don't blame it on the lower end employees entirely, but rather on those higher in the company that are trickling down garbage as a result of their poor financial situation. I used to like Alaska the best, but as of late, my money is with Southwest or Delta given the choice.

Sorry, just to clarify, I meant to say that I used to like Alaska Airlines the best, but as of late, my money is with Southwest or Delta given the choice, but absolutely not with United Airlines ever again.

One more clarification:

The part about Jack in the Box in Moscow should say:

It's like going to Jack in the Box in Moscow, Idaho. You are better off having a bum off the street kick you 30 times and then eating whatever he/she barfs up like a stray dog eating up garbage thrown to it by someone who just got done beating it.

I thought that might add more effect.

I sincerely dislike United Airlines.

Wow Joe, do you like United? LOL! I've only flown them a few times, I just go with who's cheapest and can get me where I go, so we aren't loyal to anyone airline, I've also never flown outside the US so that makes a difference too. I can't say that I detest any one airline yet--I was irritated over Southwest and their lack of assigned seats but they were roomier and everything worked out just fine. It was either United or American we flew to California and I was squished and could not move an inch in that seat and I'm not fat. ;) I did love Alaska Airlines when we lived in Seattle, I agree with you there, wish they'd come out here though..

LOL...pretty much hate United. I didn't like Southwest either for the lack of assigned seats thing as well, but like you, I got on the airplane and they are roomy leather seats and the people are decent. Not too bad. my only other issue with them is that there aren't many long distance non-stop flights. They are like a bus only in the air and better.

Alaska was my favorite until they started deciding to cancel flights without letting me know.

They also lost my luggage once, but I can't hold that against them as my luggage has only been lost 2 times in my history of flying and southwest was the cause of the other one.

Joe, were we still on United flying from Chicago back to Boise? I can't remember. If so, not getting our luggage back with us was another thing they did. I second everything Joe said about united and also how the people at Edinburgh were so friendly and helpful. I hate Chicago!
What extremely rude people. Dad and I didn't have any trouble with Delta from Salt Lake to LAX, and we were quite impressed with they way we were treated by Quantas. The people at the Sydney airport were very helpful also.

That is correct Mom. I had forgotten about that. I guess I've had my luggage lost three times. Yes, 100% crap from United. The worst airline I've ever flown on next to Ryanair.
